Fabric and Plastic on Wooden and Metal Mannequin
28 x 12 x 8 in.
I have utilized fine arts and fashion design to convey how the pressure to conform to social standards of femininity has oppressed me. The piece both embodies feministic ideas and fabricates personal experiences into metaphorical elements. While I am easily influenced by others, I still stay true to my own morals and perception of society. The sculpture’s right side reflects my inner strong will, and the left side portrays my physical response to societal standards. The fabric cut to form burnt holes are reassembled as flowers, resembling my self-growth, while the stitches symbolize patching myself together.
